Latest Updates from Our Project:

Backer surveys are coming!
over 8 years ago – Sat, Oct 17, 2015 at 12:17:11 AM

Early next week you will get your backer survey from BackerKit. We know you are excited to get your Robin and other goodies, so we’re sure you’ll fill these out right away. Doing so will help us make sure we create the right number of each product in time. If you’re worried about filling out the survey because you might change your mind, don’t worry, you can update your answers at any time. We’ll let you know when it’s getting close to when we need your final decision. If you just don’t want to fill out your survey, that’s ok too, but it might mean waiting longer for your Robin or any other goodies.

In the survey, you’ll be able to pick the model and color Robin you want, your quick charger type, and a size for your t-shirt. If you want to add a case or mascot or even another Robin to your order you’ll be able to do that and give us your payment information. Finally you’ll be giving us your shipping address - don’t worry we understand this may change too. You can change any of your responses and we will confirm everything.

Where is my survey?

A message will be sent to the email you have associated with your Kickstarter account, the same email where you receive these updates. If you log in to Kickstarter via Facebook, it will be sent to the primary email address used in your Facebook account. If you’d prefer the email be sent to a totally different place, private message us by Monday and we’ll make that happen for you.

If you need to review your information or pledge status, you can do so by entering your email at robin-the-smarter-smartphone.backerkit.com.

You would not believe how excited we are to send this survey out to you.

Final Chargers, Cases and Robin Colors

We’re working hard to push those surveys out to all of you - by this weekend. In the meantime, we wanted to show you some of the finalized designs for our cases and chargers.

First up, a lot of our international backers were curious as to what the different versions of the Quick Charger would look like. We’ll have four different versions—for our US/Japan, EU, UK, and Australia/New Zealand Rebels.

Next, we’re excited to show off the final colors for our cases... Scratches will come in one translucent shade: Frost. It looks great on every colorway. Bumps will come in four colors: Fog is inspired by the cloudy days here in San Francisco, Sky by a bright blue day, Sunset by the red-orange as the sun goes down over the ocean, and Midnight by the crisp clear night. Bruises will come in one color: Midnight.

Finally, many of you have been asking for a side by side image of all 3 Robin colorways. Here are the final versions together in one picture. Note that Midnight’s power key / fingerprint sensor is now mint.

We know we’ve been quiet, but boy have we been busy. Hope we see some of you in Texas next week!

Pause for celebration
over 8 years ago – Thu, Oct 01, 2015 at 11:08:26 PM

Today is Nextbit’s birthday. We turn 3 years old today. And to celebrate, we’re all going to sleep. You have kept us so busy this past month. (Longer than that if we count all the planning and work that went into launching Robin.)

This has been the toughest, most rewarding 30 days of our careers. We were strengthened by your support, touched by your kind words and support, and—it’s true—exhausted working to meet your requests.

Think of what we accomplished together. Your pledges raised almost $1.4 million. You helped us bring Robin to Australia, launch a second CDMA compatible version, and pick an additional colorway. You are a pioneer of the cloud-first future.

And so from the bottom of our hearts, we say “ship it!”

You look electric

The backers have voted and we have a clear winner for Robin Color: Electric, inspired by Eric Chu and Jordan Collins. Kickstarter backers will be able to choose Electric in addition to Mint and Midnight in your survey.

What’s next?

After we all take a nice nap, we’ll be back at it: We’ll still be chatting with you and answering all your questions in the comments here on Kickstarter. We’ll be sending you the backer survey for you to pick your Robin and order accessories. We’ll be heading to the Big Android BBQ in Texas and of course we’ll be working our collective butts off to bring you the best phone we can.

See you all on the other side of a good night’s sleep!

Vote for a color! Create a ringtone!
almost 9 years ago – Tue, Sep 29, 2015 at 12:22:36 AM

Wow! You guys submitted over 350 entries for the community color contest. Peter and the team have been busy analyzing your entries and the reactions to them in the comments. They synthesized all the trends into these six choices. (Yes, we had said five but we needed to add one more just to really push things.)

We’ve set up a poll for you to choose the third Robin color. You have two days to vote for your favorite. Voting will be open until Wednesday, 30 Sept at 5PM PDT (1 Oct, 0000h GMT). Go click on your favorite!

Ready to rock

We had a composer create a ringtone and alerts for Robin. We think they sound pretty great. We’ve been living with them on our phones for a while, and we want to give you the chance to make your phone a little bit more like Robin while you wait. You can download the sounds folder here. Everything is ready to go for Android users. And for you iPhone users, we’ve even included an .m4r of the ringtone so you can get a head start too.

You’ve helped us customize how Robin looks, now we’d like your help customizing how Robin sounds. Some of you out there must have next level remix skills. we know it. We asked our composer for the ringtone stems so you could jack it, screw it, and make it your own.

Announcing the #RobinTune contest

  • Download the stems folder
  • Remix to your heart’s desire. Don’t make it too long. Ringtones should be under 30 seconds
  • Upload your entry to SoundCloud.com and be sure to tag it #RobinTune
  • Submissions must be received by 16 October, 5 PM PST (17 October 0000h GMT)
  • Nextbit will review all entries and select a winner on 22 October
  • The winner’s ringtone will be included on Robin. If we think it’s just too good, we’ll even make it the default ring
  • The winner will get to name the ringtone, and will receive a free Robin (choice of color and network) as reward

Almost there. Stretch goal 2 down - Everyone gets a t-shirt. Only 3 days left to make the extra storage stretch goal! We believe. We gotta believe. See you at the finish line.

Just one week left. Sprint-ing to the finish. Plus what's the box.
almost 9 years ago – Wed, Sep 23, 2015 at 10:47:24 PM

Sprint users rejoice!

There were far more Robin true believers using Sprint than we knew about. After last week’s announcement, so many people spoke up asking for Sprint support. We listened. As of today, what used to be the Verizon version will now support Sprint too, so we’re renaming it the CDMA version.

All backers who have selected a reward level that includes a phone will be able to choose a GSM (for AT&T and TMobile networks. Also best choice for international users including Canada) or CDMA (for Verizon and Sprint networks) versions in their survey at the end of the Kickstarter campaign.

What’s in the box?

By now you all know what you’ll get with your Robin - but you’ve only read a list. It’s time to show you everything. We’ve been working with our partners to bring you a set of accessories as well designed as Robin, so it took some time. Here they are - the quick charger, charging cable, and SIM eject pin. (The quick charger will be available in 4 different plug configurations, we've only shown the North America model here.)

Thanks for believing in us. Your support has been incredible. $1.25 Million is just around the corner. See you all there!
